Your Hosts- Greg Hill & Lauren Williams.
We had our honeymoon here in Byron Bay more than 20 years ago and made it our life goal to live in the worlds best place. We have lived on this beautiful property since 2013 and we look forward to sharing it with welcome guests.
Where does the name Pallis Hills come from?
Lauren's great grandfather, Edward Cahill was born in County Tipperary, Ireland in 1845. As a young man he worked on a local farm called Pallas Hills. These were tough times in Ireland with the potato famine. Edward emigrated to Australia in about 1863 at the age of 18.
He moved to a place called Salisbury Plains near Uralla in NSW, and took up a property as a selector. He called it Pallis Hills after the farm he had worked on in Ireland. He later married and raised 14 children, including Laurens grandmother. The house near Uralla still stands, although it is now only used as quarters at shearing time.
So when we bought our first country property we thought it would be nice to use a family name. We visited Ireland a few years ago to see the original property.
